Winter Camp of 2007

2007 Winter Camp in Yancheng City Jiangsu Province

Yancheng is a prefecture-level city in north eastern Jiangsu province, People's Republic of China. The largest city in Jiangsu in terms of physical size, Yancheng borders Lianyungang to the north, Huai'an to the west, Yangzhou and Taizhou to the southwest, Nantong to the south, and looks out to the Yellow Sea to the east.

Yancheng, literally "Salt City", is named after the many sea salt harvest fields around the city. According to historical records, collection and production of sea salt in the region began as early as 119 BC during the Western Han Dynasty, when the settlement on the current location of Yancheng was named Yandu County (盐都县).

Yancheng has a history of 2,100 years since the first canton was founded here in Han Dynasty at year 119 BC. Yancheng was in the limelight during the Chinese Civil War from the 1930s to 1940s. The New Fourth Army (N4A) led by the Communist Party of China was reestablished in Yancheng after being ambushed and battered by the enemy. After the revival, the N4A played a very important role in the war and finally the foundation of the People's Republic of China. Many monuments in honor of N4A heroes can still be found around Yancheng.

Number of teachers required:   10 teachers

Salary:  RMB 4,500

Starting Date: Feb 3rd (Saturday) through Feb 12th(Monday) for 10 days.

 Remarks: 1) Teachers are to report at the lobby of the guesthouse of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) at 12:30 p.m. of Feb 2nd (Friday). A van will take the teachers to Yan Cheng City (About 4 hours drive

         2) There will be a teaching preparatory meeting in the evening of Feb 2nd. On the afternoon of Feb 12th after the closing ceremony a van will take the teachers back to SISU (Shanghai International Studies University) guesthouse and the teachers will get their payment at the lobby)

Location: No.1 Primary School of Yan Cheng City Jiangsu Province. (A very well equipped, modern school)

Accommodations:  Free board and lodging (two persons share a double room,air-contioned,24 hours hot water)

Teaching load: Six periods a day.

3 periods in the morning (50 minutes/period)

3 periods in the afternoon.

plus total 4 activites (3:40 - 5:10 p.m. that is 90 minutes/each).

Teaching material: The teaching materials will be provided by the school but  Supplementary materials offered from the teachers are welcomed.

Students aged : 9 to 12 (grade 3 to grade 6)

Class size:  Each group has 38 - 40 students.

Air-ticket Reimbursement: air-ticket is not provided by  school
