Zhongshan City
with an area of 1683 sq meters and
the population of about 1320
thousands is situated in mid-south
of Guangdong Province, on the west
bank of Pearl River. In the Qin and
Han Dynasties, it was the prefecture
and the county in the Dang Dynasty
with original name Xiangshan. Here
was the birthplace of Dr.
Sunzhongshan (Sun Yat-sen), the
great revolutionary and the founder
of Kongmintang. He has been the
president of the Republic of China
(in 1912-1925). In 1911, he with the
help of the Communists commanded his
troops to launch a famous war called
in history Xin-Hai Revolution
overthrowing the Qing Dynasty and
ended the history of Chiness feudal
system being lasted over thousands
years. For many Chinese, Mr. Sun is
recognized the father of modern
China. He died in Beijing in 1925.
In memory of him, Xiangshan was
renamed Zhongshan City.
Zhongshan
City stands in the middle of some
other famous cities, Guangzhou to
its east, Zhuhai to its south,
Jiangmen to its west, and Hong Kong
and Macao in the vicinity. With 0.60
million of compatriots living abroad
over 64 countries and areas, it is a
very famous overseas Chinese
homeland of China. Zhongshan City is
composed of 19 townships, 4
districts and one new hi-tech
development district. Here is the
subtropical zone monsoon climate,
its annual precipitation is 1851
millimeters and the annual average
temperature is 21.8. It is known as
a land with abundant fish and rice.
Since the
reform and opening, Zhongshan City
has developed in high speed. The GDP
ranked 33rd among the 240 cities at
the prefecture level in the country.
The infrastructure facilities are
going complete, with developed
communications and transport on land
and waterways. In 2000, the
urbanization reached 57%. The total
highway mileage was 1068.3 km. State
Highway 105, Guangzhou-Zhuhai
Highway and Beijing-Zhuhai
Expressway go across the whole area.
There are 3 ports open to foreign
trade, and 11 export starting
points. It is 75 minutes' sailing
from Zhongshan Port to Hong Kong. In
recent years, Zhongshan has been
granted titles like "National
Sanitation City", "National Garden
City", "National Advanced City of
Invigorating with Science and
Technology" and "National Model City
of Environmental Protection" and
"Fine Tourist City of China" and in
1997 it was granted "Human
Habitation Award" by the United
Nations.
Zhongshan
City is famous for its beautiful
natural surroundings and rich
cultural resources. The major
tourist spots include: the Former
Residence of Dr. Sun Yatsen, Dr. Sun
Yat-sen Memorial Park, Zhongzhan
Town, the set base of CCTV, the
Pedestrians' Street on Sunwen Road
(W), Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.

Sun Yat-san
Memorial Park: Being built in 1956,
it is located in Cuiting village,
17.6 km south east of Zhongshan
City, 100km away from Guangzhou and
30km from Macao. Facing to the sea
and sitting in the dense forest, it
has a comfortable climate. Now it
was turn to a beautiful park with an
area of 60 thousands. Here, you will
see the Dr.Sun Yat-sen's Residence,
Memorial Hall, Sun Yat-sen sculpture
statue, Cuiting common people
residences etc.
